Especially as it concerns smaller papers. Yes, paywalls are frustrating when you reach your limit of free articles, or something that you want to read is locked. But newspapers have to do this to survive. Most are already hanging by a thin thread.

I think the WaPo lets me "gift" six articles per month, maybe eight. I can't recall.
