4. Never thought Tom Harkin, Paul Wellstone's Best Friend In The Whole World, would be

mocked here on DU. There's a liberal if you ever saw one. I'll never forget the sight of Harkin sobbing on national tv about that plane crash.

"A liaison to liberals? I've never heard of such a thing," said Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), throwing his hands in the air. "I asked her about it and she said she was some kind of adviser. I don't know what it is. I don't know what that all means."

So they haven't been briefed yet. Why is it something to chortle about?

Harry Reid made the appointment. That's what is significant. He created this opportunity for her. I think he's got something in mind, and she's amenable to it.

Paul was my best friend in the Senate. But in truth, he was one of those rare souls who so many saw as their best friend. He had a powerful authenticity that made a miner in the Iron Range know he was as important to Paul as the president of the United States. The hard-working folks he cared about most didn’t have lobbyists or influence. But they had Paul Wellstone.
