Democratic Primaries
In reply to the discussion: 3/27 5am Bernie Sanders On His Campaign: 'It's Going To Be A Very Steep Road' [View all]The Magistrate
(96,043 posts)I am quite willing to call the Presidential primary over and done. Viewed dispassionately, Sanders is in the position of a baseball team with a season won/lost record of .400, ten games out of first, with the team on top enjoying a season won/loss record of .600. With eleven games to go, it will be clear to anyone the pennant is going to the latter team, not the former, and that by the end of the season the distance between them will have expanded to a dozen games.
Viewed with regard to its political effect, Sanders' continuing is the act of a splinterist wrecker, nothing more. It can bring no benefit whatsoever, and will do real harm. Again, the only questions are how much harm will it do, and will the harm done be sufficient to maintain Trump in office. It cannot even be assumed 'Bernie' does not intend this worst possible outcome, or would be too discomfited by it. 'Bernie' is not really running for the Party's nomination for President, 'Bernie' is running to overthrow the 'Democratic Establishment', and may well consider in his heart of hearts that balking success in ousting Trump just might contrive that. A silver lining for his life-long radical aspirations, in a damned dark cloud for the people and our country.
"From Bernies perspective, dropping out of a race once you have no chance of winning is peculiar behavior that can only be explained by the work of a hidden hand. For most politicians, though, it is actually standard operating procedure. Only Sanders seems to think the normal thing to do once voters have made clear they dont want to nominate you is to continue campaigning anyway."
"When things are not called by their right names, what is said cannot make sense. When what is said does not make sense, what is planned cannot succeed. When plans do not succeed, people become uneasy. When people are uneasy, punishments do not fit crimes. When punishments do not fit crimes, people cannot know where to put hand or foot."
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
