Why I support Joe Biden for Democratic Candidate [View all]

(An appropriate topic, I believe, for post 24,000)

No one running in the Dem field has the depth of, or level of, legislative and political experience as Joe Biden.

But that's not why I'm voting for him.

Is he too moderate? Maybe for many living in progressive west coast and east coast bubbles (myself included).

To be honest, I find the preemptive narratives of Senator Elizabeth Warren, Governor Jay Inslee and Mayor Pete Buttigieg to be really appealing. I've voted for Kamala Harris on several occasions: for California A.G. and senator. Harris would make a fine president (as would Warren, Inslee and even Mayor Pete).

But Biden? There's just something about him right now that seems to be so electable. And that's the thing. Right or wrong, the vast number of Americans favor familiarity, comfort, authenticity, and some degree of celebrity in their politicians.

It's an unfortunate paradox. Despite Hillary Clinton's obvious legislative and public service advantage over you-know-who, it didn't make a damn bit of difference to just enough people living in just enough states.

It sucks. But that’s the way it is.

Biden represents a return to normal. He's familiar. He's popular. He's authentic as hell. I think he represents a safe bet for a lot of people.

The goal here is not to pick the perfect progressive candidate.

The goal is to pick the Democrat that can beat Trump's ass.

And that means we need to field a candidate that's going to appeal to independents, protest voters, and non-voters. We don't need them all, just enough of them in just enough states.

Joe's the guy.

All the mud, shit and kitchen sinks Trump throws at him will just bounce off.

And that, my friends, is why I'm voting for the Vice President.
