Like IMMEDIATELY EVERY TIME updates are available, restart the phone daily (in some cases, it dumps the spyware, so it has to re-infect to work), and use WhatsApp or Signal for texting/calls/chats. I loaded up Signal today. It was easy-peasy. Run an anti-virus or anti-malware app (F-protect, Sophos, or whatever), too.

Regular texts may be OK for "Hey, your order is ready" or whatever. Still, if you talk politics via text or calls, you better get that secured because Hitler and his minions aren't going to give a crap about warrants or anything else.
