Prices at the gas pump jumped an average of 11 cents across the US on Tuesday morning, according to AAA. The national price for a gallon of regular gas climbed from $3.00 on Monday to $3.11 on Tuesday, while premium fuel rose from $3.86 to $3.98.
That's the largest single-day price rise at the pump since March 2022, AAA told Business Insider. Every state except Hawaii experienced Tuesday's price jump.
It's also the first time the national average for regular gas has topped $3 a gallon in 2026.
The spike comes as Iran expands attacks in response to bombings by the US and Israel. In recent days, Iran has launched missiles and drones at Israel and at US bases in Bahrain, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar.

Bruesewitz — an ex-Trump 2024 campaign adviser who is now senior adviser to one of his PACs — reportedly flew from Doha to Athens with help from White House officials and Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.), the latter of whom recently downplayed the U.S. strikes on Iran as “not war.”
Bruesewitz told Politico’s West Wing Playbook that he paid for the private charter flight and worked with Qatari, Saudi and U.S. officials to get himself, dog-walking TikTok influencer Sarah Gaither, and Jay Footlik, an ex-special assistant to former President Bill Clinton, out of the country.
Bruesewitz offered the flight to Gaither after she shared viral TikTok clips that her return trip from an African safari was upended when flights were suspended during a layover in Doha, per The Daily Beast.

NEW: Trump adviser Alex Bruesewitz found himself stranded in the Middle East alongside thousands of others as flights ground to a halt this weekend, Bruesewitz told West Wing Playbook.
Seeking refuge in Qatar, he worked with officials from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United States, including White House officials and @realannapaulina to find a way out for himself and others – including Jay Footlik, former special assistant to Bill Clinton — and a TikTok-famous dogwalker from Dallas named Sarah Gaither .
He chartered (and paid for) a private plane and got the group to Greece, because it was the nearest city where he had a close relationship with the U.S. ambassador, Kimberly Guilfoyle.
“This has easily been the craziest experience of my life. I’m grateful for all of the people who played a role in getting us out of the active war zone and to safety. I can’t wait to get back to the USA, the greatest country in the world!" Bruesewitz said.
They touched down in Greece around midnight local time.
