Democrats threaten to withhold funding after ICE killing in Minneapolis
(The Guardian) A day after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer shot and killed a 37-year-old US citizen in Minneapolis, Democrats on Capitol Hill are demanding restraints on the agency Donald Trump has empowered to carry out his mass deportation campaign and some are threatening to use the next funding deadline to force those changes. Democrats sharply condemned the Trump administration over the killing of Renee Nicole Good, demanding accountability after the president; JD Vance the vice-president; and the secretary of homeland security, Kristi Noem repeatedly claimed that the officer acted in self-defense.
Democrats call for hearings, independent probes over ICE shooting
(Roll Call) Democratic members of Congress on Thursday called for oversight hearings and independent probes into the fatal shooting of Renee Good by a federal immigration agent as well as the wider Trump administration approach to immigration enforcement. The lawmakers raised concerns about whether the American people would have doubts about a federal investigation into the shooting in Minneapolis, pointing to the quick defenses of the agent from President Donald Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem that included descriptions of what happened that didnt appear to match with videos of the incident.
Trump Lays Out a Vision of Power Restrained Only by 'My Own Morality'
(NY Times) President Trump declared on Wednesday evening that his power as commander in chief is constrained only by his own morality, brushing aside international law and other checks on his ability to use military might to strike, invade or coerce nations around the world. Asked in a wide-ranging interview with The New York Times if there were any limits on his global powers, Mr. Trump said: Yeah, there is one thing. My own morality. My own mind. Its the only thing that can stop me.
Stephen Miller's "Iron Law"
(Charlie Sykes) In his interview with CNN, Trumps malign homunculus made it clear that there is no velvet glove on this fist. The world, Stephen Miller insists, must be governed by raw force. "We live in a world in which you can talk all you want about international niceties and everything else, but we live in a world, in the real world, Jake, that is governed by strength, that is governed by force, that is governed by power, Miller told Jake Tapper of CNN. These are the iron laws of the world since the beginning of time. If that sounds familiar it is. It is the ancient worldview that might makes right. The law of the jungle. Eat or be eaten. It is the credo of tyrants, conquerors, thugs, and bullies throughout history.

Donald Trump Says Second Wave of Venezuela Strikes Canceled
(Newsweek) President Donald Trump has said he is canceling a second wave of strikes on Venezuela due to the cooperation of the regime in Caracas. Writing on Truth Social on Friday morning, Trump said the release of Venezuelan political prisoners was a "very important and smart gesture." "The U.S.A. and Venezuela are working well together, especially as it pertains to rebuilding, in a much bigger, better, and more modern form, their oil and gas infrastructure," Trump said. It comes after at least 24 Venezuelan security officers were killed last week in a U.S. military raid.
