We were going to a beer tasting tonight and he made a joke about me voting for Trump. I laughed as we both knew that was never going to happen. Then he brought up the mic incident and said no one should ever vote for Trump. I was surprised. I never expected this guy to be against Trump but even more so FOR Harris. He revealed he voted for her. My jaw was on the floor. I asked about his conservative stances… he said “Democracy matters more.” This was a huge relief to me to hear. He is very much a Liz Cheney Republican… and well, I guess he proved that tonight.

(1,720 posts)They would have much more credibility as an "opposition" for the next four years---
than being obliged to defend Trump's future abominations
Every Republican and every conservative should be voting to
"Turn the page", for their own good.

(5,052 posts)If TFG wins, the moderate or normal branch of republicans will not gain back the party. As much as I disagree with them, they are still miles better than whatever Trumpism is right now. So I wish them luck and hope that they can gain back control of the party.
But the first thing is for TFG to lose or else they will have zero chance.
We need a normal and functioning opposition party to exist but Trumpism isn’t it.

(19 posts)in the waiting room at the hand surgeon. Guy about my age (70-ish) with a UA hat and sweater, we had small talk about the space race and how we made it to the moon first because we had better Germans. Conversation veered to the polls which I said I thought were cooked and I thought it wasn't that close. He asked who I thought would win, and I said "Harris." He said "I hope so."
I wasn't expecting this but I wasn't all that surprised, he seemed pretty reasonable. He is a lifelong Republican from Alabama, I'm a lifelong Democrat from South Carolina, and we agreed that the orange one is a menace and his followers were a cult. This is in Upstate SC, a good number of stealth Democrats around but the lady that sat down in the middle of our conversation barely concealed her disgust. About that time I got called in for my post-op appointment and we parted amicably.
There may be some hope for this country yet if people like this guy will step up.

Even before our president pulled out of the race, people were reporting seeing far fewer pro-rapist garbage in their reddish areas.
Liz Cheney said a couple weeks ago that you can vote and not tell anyone who you voted for which is what millions of republicans will do. I hope she's right. I totally think she's right. Some of them will actually tell you they voted for Harris in your case.
