Trump, Elon Musk Invited to SNL 50 Anniversary Special: Report

Source: Consequence

Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary special on Sunday is already considered one of the hardest tickets to get, given tiny capacity of Studio 8H (which typically holds about 250 guests) and the sheer volume of former cast members, celebrities, executives, and other VIPs vying for a seat. In preparation of Sunday’s festivities, SNL installed 200 extra seats inside of its studio, but even still, many prospective guests have reportedly been warned to expect to sit in Studio 8G, an overflow room set up in the neighboring Late Night With Seth Meyers.

As hectic as all that sounds, the scene could prove even more chaotic if two invited guests end up showing up Sunday night: According to Matt Belloni of Puck News, both Donald Trump and Elon Musk have been invited to attend SNL’s 50th anniversary bash, part of a guest list that includes many other pasts hosts of the show (like Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce), as well as writers, producers, and VIPs.

As of now, Belloni reports that neither Trump nor Musk has indicated whether they will attend. It’s worth noting that Trump, who hosted SNL twice in 2004 and 2015, attended the show’s 40th anniversary special in 2015. Currently, Trump is scheduled to attend the Daytona 500 in Daytona Beach, Florida, earlier on Sunday.

If Trump does end up attending, his presence will no doubt draw the ire of some SNL cast members. According to a new book on SNL creator Lorne Michaels by author Susan Morrison, his decision to book Trump as host prior to the 2016 presidential election resulted in behind-the-scenes turmoil, with some cast members and staff believing that the episode helped soften Trump’s image and enhance his electability. In response to the outage, Michaels was quoted as saying, “It’s the hardest thing for me to explain to this generation that the show is nonpartisan.”

Will mean bumping other guests to build a protective 'moat' around the orange pustule. Would likely mean a late edit and purging of Trump jokes.

As past hosts, they must be invited. (They won’t accept.)

If they had a spine, they wouldn't.

And the maga crowd is going to attack anyway. It's time we stop anticipating it by censoring ourselves and undermining our own values.

Every once in a while theres a good scene, but I haven't kept up with the show in decades. Same with shows like the Simpsons. They had a really good run for awhile but the current offerings are nothing compared to the heyday.

Sure, they've invited all the past hosts I guess, but they could have made a statement against those two idiots by not inviting them. I'm sure the NBC bigwigs wouldn't have allowed that, and maybe thats why the show has lost its way. Everything is corporate these days.

This invite is in such bad taste. It's gross. I'd say we won't watch it but we gave it up long ago.

Assuming that Franken was also invited and accepted, I would bet that both Trump and Musk would decline to show up.

And speaking of Al Franken, my, my, but how times have changed. During the second season, Henry Kissinger called up Michaels to see if he could comp some tickets for his nieces and nephews. Al Franken overheard the conversation and yelled loud enough for Kissinger to hear, "He can have those tickets only if he apologizes for bombing Cambodia on Christmas Day!"
