Related: About this forumHow We Take Back the Supreme Court - Robert Reich
Need one more reason to stop Donald Trump this November?
I have one for you.
If Trump wins, he could become the first president in more than a half century to appoint a majority of the Supreme Court. - 10/15/2024.

(27,795 posts)1. He almost certainly would if elected
Between Thomas/Alito/Roberts - likely two of them would retire in the next four years if they knew they would be replaced with a republican president and senate.
Though I'm not sure whether any of them would be replaced during a Harris administration if they had any option at all.

Unless the administration could successfully implement term limits...

(27,795 posts)3. I don't see any possibility of implementing term limits for SCOTUS
Absent a constitutional amendment (which wouldn't be necessary if there were anything close to support for it) it would be unconstitutional.
Are there legal theories that disagree? Sure - but the final call on that point would be made by these same justices. So it isn't going to happen.

(224,013 posts)4. Term limits was the only option I've heard mentioned, but I have no idea what it would take to implement it.
