They are convinced that if they are at the scene of a mass shooting they will be able to defend themselves and take out the shooter.

It does not occur to them that they might be the first or second one shot, caught by surprise without warning, before they even have time to see where the shots are coming from or who the shooter is.

I agree with posts that say that this is domestic terrorism and that's the reason why R legislators are happy to have guns available to anyone, any time, any where. When people feel terrified, they are more willing to accept authoritarian leadership.
