(11,924 posts)I already live abroad. Moved temporarily to the UK at 43. Came back about a year later to settle some things and was still a bit on the fence. The passage of a campus carry bill in the state where I lived and taught a very politically charged subject sealed the deal. I resigned my university teaching position (no small feat, considering the years of study and labour I'd put in), got a job in the UK and moved. I just got a 5 year visa and after that, I'll have my green card (the equivalent in the UK). If I had to move back to the US, I'd only move home to the northeast.
It was neither easy or cheap to do this. But it has been worth it so far, minus missing my family and friends.
Now, to be fair, every country has its warts, shitty politicians, policies and people. The Tories are appallingly bad, but they're likely on their way out.
