US House seats are a lock for Republicans because of extreme gerrymandering, which also keeps the state legislature in their control. I had hopes for this election to finally see Ted Cruz shown the exit door until the state took over Houston’s elections administration. I think Houston has the largest number of Democratic voters in the state, and it is highly likely that Republicans will try to manipulate the vote to protect Cruz. Things like only one dropbox for mail ballots in a county with millions of voters can cause people not to vote. Conveniently losing new voter registrations helps. Forcing people to vote conditional ballots because of imaginary errors is probable, along with never counting those ballots.

This article is from 2023, but it reports on how the legislature passed laws to thwart Democratic dominance in Houston.
