I mean, that was profoundly stupid, but everyone can see it's meaningless nonsense - someone who likes the sound of his own voice and thinks others do too (sadly true with the crowd he gets). But this "go out 70 miles and you go at 2 knots" bullshit? He was trying to get people to believe that.
