27. A brilliant political ad. And an uncanny resemblance to our current situation. Change a few names and slightly change

there actual issues at stake and it fits perfectly into the present moment. So 1950s and 60s to pull out a cigarette to heighten the sense of anxiety and serious reflection. Brilliant propaganda. I remember that election (I was 11 years old), and my parents were worried that Goldwater might be serious about launching a nuclear war. They later became rabid conservatives thanks to their anxiety about 60s race riots and assassinations, and then Fox News totally brainwashed them.

I seem to remember that info-mercial. There was some controversy. It's length and its cost were items in the news. jaxexpat Jul 2024 #5
Another was the Daisy Ad -- kaboom. It's gotten replayed a lot over the years. I didn't remember the one in the OP. Hekate Jul 2024 #23
It was obscure, even then. Those were the days of Jack Parr and Steve Allen, chatting from a chair was common fare. jaxexpat Jul 2024 #25
