In reply to the discussion: Reuters: VP choice down to Walz or Shapiro [View all]Zoomie1986
(1,213 posts)His CV pales next to that of Walz. Governor less than 2 years compared to six for Walz, for instance.
The most concerning is that he has no federal legislative experience, when a major component of a VP is advocating for the POTUS agenda in Congress. Every single Democratic VP since Truman has served in elected office on Capitol Hill for a reason, you know. Walz is in that tradition, which means he understands the process, without needing a learning curve to become effective.
Shapiro has no experience of how the Hill works. He's a bright guy who can learn, and he undoubtedly knows people there....but being smart in general isn't being smart about dealing with Congress. Knowing people there as an outsider is far different from actually being among them as a member. We need someone who can hit the ground running in establishing the Harris agenda, not someone who's learning to get a feel for the place.
