The percentage of a party supporting their candidate (or an issue) may not change, but what's often missed at first glance is that the party's population may have changed. As in, people start leaving the party, shrinking its total numbers...and leaving only the most die-hard behind.
Maybe a few years ago the party had, say, 30 million people and 87% of them backed a McCain or Romney. But if 10 million of your voters of the past became independents because the party was becoming more extreme, then it's not a surprise when 87% supports a candidate as radical as TSF. The 20 million who remain have made the party far more radical than when it had the 10 million more 'moderate' voters in it.
That's what has happened to the traitor party.

OP
There are quite a few signs that many republicans won't be voting for him.

Don't kid yourself that any polling error is hiding some HUGE shift in support for Trump

In the South it has much to do with racism. Personal experience cause that's where I keep all my stuff.

No. The midwest has a lot of support for Trump, and most states have right-wing pockets.

Some republicans, especially women, are afraid to tell a pollster what they really think.
