while working overnight as cashier/attendant in a 24-hour gas station in a suburb just outside the city, where he had worked many years without incident.

His response was to quit that job.

Less than two years afterward at that same station,
the overnight cashier was killed in a robbery, a crime which to my knowledge, has never been solved.

Both of us were pretty glad that he had quit that job, at that point....!
