I recognize that debates are important, but remember something my late father reminded me of back when Reagan was debating Mondale -- debating is not among a president's responsibilities. He compared presidential debates to Miss America beauty contests -- and added that he was glad the Kennedy vs Nixon was televised, rather than just carried on radio. But he thought that debates provided an accurate measure of how shallow most people were.
