Of course, there's no way I can prove this.

But in the event that Trump turns in a shockingly awful debate performance and in the event that Harris turns in a great one, I think that would boost Harris's campaign momentum, increase the energy level of her supporters even more, and make winning in November more likely. I heard talk show host Dean Obeidallah say on one of his recent shows that the higher the energy level, the more votes that will translate to.

Again, this is just a hunch.

Kamala is smart. She never would have been interested in debating Trump if she thought it had no potential of improving her chances to be elected president. Agreeing to this debate was a part of her strategy to win in November.
