Here’s a fact-check of their speeches from two rallies in September.

Trump’s speech (64) Harris’s speech (6)

1 False
HEALTH CARE
“Remember, when he was president, he tried 60 times to end the Affordable Care Act.”

This was a reference to the number of votes taken in Congress to change the health care law, including some repeal efforts but other minor changes and some supported by Democrats. The vast majority of those efforts preceded Mr. Trump’s presidency. During his time in office, House Republicans took more than a dozen votes to change the health care law.

1 Misleading
HEALTH CARE
“He intends to cut Social Security and Medicare.”

Mr. Trump has said repeatedly during his 2024 presidential campaign that he would not cut Social Security or Medicare, though he had previously shown brief and vague support for such proposals.

1 Exaggerated
ECONOMY
“In fact, independent economists like Goldman Sachs have said my plan would grow our economy and his plan would shrink the economy, reignite inflation, and send us into a recession by the middle of next year.”

A Goldman Sachs analysis did show that a Harris victory, with Democrats controlling Congress, would result in a “very slight boost” to economic growth, while a Trump victory, regardless of what happens in Congress, would cause growth to slow in 2025. But Goldman's chief executive said “a lot more has been made of this than should be,” given the report showed a mere “two-tenth of 1 percent” difference between the scenarios.

3 Need Context
ECONOMY
“And he wants to impose what I call the “Trump sales tax” on everyday basic necessities, which, as economists have reviewed, would cost the average family nearly $4,000 more a year.”

Ms. Harris was referring to Mr. Trump’s proposals to place a 10 to 20 percent tariff on most imports, and a 60 percent tariff on Chinese goods. She accurately cited one estimate of the cost. Other estimates are lower, while some are higher.

HEALTH CARE
“On top of all of this, Donald Trump intends to end the Affordable Care Act.”

Mr. Trump has made vague and contradictory statements about his health care plan, saying he would not terminate it but replace it only with “something better and less expensive.”

ATTACKS ON TRUMP
“He who has vowed, if re-elected, he would be a dictator on Day One.”

Ms. Harris was referring to comments Mr. Trump made on Fox News about being a dictator only on his first day in office. He later said he was joking.

On Sept. 26, a claim was added from Ms. Harris's speech.

Note: The length of Mr. Trump’s speaking time and the transcript of his speech shown at the top do not include the time that Mr. Trump took to introduce guest speakers or the time that the guests spent speaking. The total duration of Mr. Trump’s onstage appearance at the Las Vegas rally was one hour and 20 minutes.
