(11,160 posts)I am so sick of this. The cost of housing HAS gone up. I get it. I also remember our first house being a one and a half story two bedroom (attic converted to third bedroom) one bath house in a lower middle working class neighborhood with mediocre public schools. Not my dream house, but perfectly fine for several years to build equity and learn about home ownership (we stayed nine years).
I know young adults in our current middle class neighborhood in a better location with much better schools that expect to purchase a house similar to one the grew up in (three to four bedrooms, three plus baths, bonus rooms, high end finishes and appliances, etc.) as their affordable starter home. Sorry, no sympathy from me. It took us over ten years to move to our current house where we have resided for over twenty years. Though we could afford a bigger better house in more upscale area, I am actually looking forward to downsizing.
