(2,346 posts)Trump at nearly 80 is trying to project an image of himself as strong, vital, handsome and basically immortal.This is of course a lie. There are eighty year old men who can still kick the butts of people half their age, but the reality is that by the time you hit 80 you're losing fat and muscle tissue, tire more easily, and mental processes simply take longer and are more likely to get short-circuited. My father and wife's mother and father are all in their 80s, and while all are relatively fit, the operant term is "relatively".
Being president is a hard job. It places hard demands on the body, from stress to lack of sleep to grueling travel schedules, and it generally is best done by people in their late 40s (so that they have the maturity necessary to do the job) to mid-60s. Biden was able to handle the administrative side of things brilliantly, but being president also requires being visible (especially to more conservative folk), and I think early on he made a decision to focus on cleaning up and realigning things to being a public figurehead. I was sorry to see him go but I also felt it was the right decision.
This isn't agism, it's simply reality.
