67. Howard Dean once told me

He thought the ideal age for an incoming president ought to be about 50. This was in 2009, the year Obama took office. Howard had just turned 60 in November of 2008.

Now it takes an extraordinary 50 year old to have the knowledge, the experience, the maturity, and a thick enough skin to take that job on. But JFK, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama did it while still in their forties. They were all extraordinary individuals. So, for that matter, were Carter and Biden, though they exceeded Howard’s age limit. For that matter, Howard noted that some had urged him to run again in 2016, but at age 68, he said no.
