I think I've only had to walk through (well, past) protestors once, to get into a theater to see The Last Temptation of Christ. Nothing dramatic, however, and no police presence that I recall.

But yeah, these days: circus. That's an apt description of the MAGA cult, both inside and outside their rallies. And the metaphor makes sense given that they have a ringmaster, too. He must get such a huge rush out of playing these little monkeys like a fiddle and seeing them flagellate and prostrate and make asses of themselves all in his name.

(No offense to actual monkeys intended. I was thinking of monkey see, monkey do, and it just sorta fit with the circus theme.)
