For what he accomplished and tried to accomplish. The slide started with the Afghanistan withdrawal (which wasn't his fault). The messaging and hostile press was relentless from then on. There needed to be ferocious pushback and messaging to counter that but there wasn't. Part of it is a media ecosystem that strangles positive messaging on our behalf. By election time he was in a hole that couldn't be dug out of and being pushed aside by people who should've been fighting harder for him all along.
Having said that the Harris campaign has exceeded my expectations of what could be done to dig out of that hole and I couldn't be more pleased about her.
I am cautiously optimistic
