deals with Nazi resistance in Norway.
Quote: The story follows the townspeople as they grapple with the meaning of freedom and their obligations as citizens. The invaders impose their will on the villagers, but the villagers fight back.
The Moon Is Down inspired resistance across Europe. After World War II, Norwegian King Haakon VII awarded Steinbeck the Freedom Cross for the book's perceived impact in Norway.
The book was secretly translated into many languages, including French, Norwegian, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, German, Italian, and Russian
In fascist Italy, possessing the book was punishable by death.
