(64,830 posts)I do feel great anger and even hate, but I am inspired by better people.
I had to have a spinal x-ray today. I was checking in and the nice woman behind the desk asked how I was. She is Black, so I answered that I was unhappy with the election results. In my community, it's a very safe bet that a Black woman did not support Trump.
She said, paraphrasing, "We survived this before and we'll survive it again. We have to pull together for the good of our country. I will work for the good of our country."
It was a calm, stoic acceptance of fact and message of resilience. It was "when they go low, I will live through this and protect my loved ones by going high and supporting a higher ideal, this country."
That message from a Black woman whose ancestors were probably enslaved people, whose grandmother struggled for the right to vote in the Jim Crow south, kind of put me to shame. Her underlying message might have been, "Buck up, white lady. You ain't seen nothing yet. Watch how survival is done."
