(1,958 posts)Well now perhaps the two types of hatred will be more balanced, at least in the States. Nothing to be happy about.
Genocide denial is a real thing. It happens when some people are viewed as less than others. For example, when the killing of 1200 people is called a genocide by some but not the killing of 43,000 (much higher in reality). Even accounting for population differences, that's quite revealing.
To put it in perspective, that's equivalent to 7 million Americans dead. I wonder if it would be shrugged off so easily then. How about 200,000 Israelis? Perhaps those figures make you shudder, perhaps not.
The toll of the genocide is not just in the vastly understated death count, but in the many additional unreported deaths both direct and indirect. Diseases, epidemics, lack of medical care, dirty water, malnutrition and starvation and of course generational stunting and PTSD. Just the impact of no schooling for kids for years is enormous, as is the impact of the demolition of all 12 universities. Genocide is mental as well as physical destruction.
There is no other way to look at the sum of all evidence, in its totality, and not conclude this is a genocide forethought and well-planned. It's nothing short of evil.
Edited to add: About the death-toll undercount: there are at least 10,000 missing, presumed buried under rubble. That was at the endof November. The missing count was then discontinued. As for the official count of deaths, there is nothing worthy of that name. The hospitals, the counters of the dead, are gone. Which raises the question, who is taking care of the badly wounded, maimed and burned, most of them ending up dead too? Who counts them?
But aside from the counts, who will be held accountable for the massive, unfuckingspeakable human suffering inflicted on these defenceless people, most of them children? As long as there are genocide deniers, no one will.
Done here.
