be welcome in the Shenandoah Valley. Harrisonburg and environs have a long tradition of welcoming immigrants. This may have something to do with the pervasive Mennonite influence in the Valley and their tradition of "welcoming the stranger". The local Catholic Church (whatever you think of the Romans) is also active in welcoming immigrants. The public school ESL classes had, at last count, some 60 languages represented, yet somehow seemed to manage pretty well. And local industries, from poultry processing to organic farms, are always looking for workers.
