1. He does seem like a really, really annoying person.

Eventually his spotlight-hogging will piss off Dear Leader, who does not like sharing the spotlight at all. I've known people like that - probably every workplace has a few - the person (usually a guy but not always) who sucks up to the boss while at the same time trying to boss the boss. They don't last long.
