In reply to the discussion: Joe Walsh (on MSNBC just now), you are wrong, wrong, wrong in your take on Hunter Biden's pardon [View all]Ocelot II
(121,502 posts)It went way beyond a legitimate prosecution for a crime of possessing a gun while abusing drugs. Hunter did commit that crime, but it was one that is almost never prosecuted when there's no underlying crime, as in where the gun is used. If it had been a routine prosecution without a political motive a pardon might not have been appropriate, but Hunter was targeted for the express purpose of harming Joe politically. I think Joe changed his mind when he saw what Trump's DoJ was going to turn into - little but a mechanism for retribution on Trump's behalf - and Trump clearly wanted very much to punish Joe for the 2020 election and intended to do so. Hunter was about to be sentenced for this "crime," but investigations almost certainly would continue under Patel's FBI and Bondi's prosecutors regarding Burisma and who knows what other matters, and it would never end until Hunter broke. Joe must have realized that, and concluded that a pardon was necessary to save Hunter's sobriety if not his life. These are vicious people and they wouldn't have stopped.
