One reason I so respected Jimmy Carter ... [View all]

... was that he was the ONLY MAN and the only person who defined himself as a Christian that I EVER heard say things like quote below. Is the subjugation and human devaluation of women from 'God' or men? I think it is from men, and JC had the spine to SAY it.

(The alleviation of women's abuse) "is made less likely by the mandated subservience of women by Christian fundamentalists. What is especially disappointing...is the docile acceptance by so many strong Christian women of their subjugation & restricted role."
- Jimmy Carter (RIP)
-From his book "Our Endangered Values - America's Moral Crisis"

Another Jimmy Carter quote about women & girls:

I have become convinced that the most serious and unaddressed worldwide challenge is the deprivation and abuse of women and girls, largely caused by a false interpretation of carefully selected religious texts and a growing tolerance of violence and warfare, unfortunately following the example set during my lifetime by the United States. — From 2014 book “A Call to Action.”

AND...

“As its most repugnant, the belief that women must be subjugated to the wishes of men excuses slavery, violence, forced prostitution, genital mutilation and national laws that omit rape as a crime. But it also costs many millions of girls and women control over their own bodies and lives, and continues to deny them fair access to education, health, employment and influence within their own communities...”

"The abuse of women and girls is the most pervasive and unaddressed human rights violation on Earth."
-From “A Call to Action: Women, Religion, Violence, & Power” by Jimmy Carter, 2014
