“It’s the journey, not the destination” crowd. Even identical routes would yield very different travel times. Admittedly, this device was crude and setting the saturation points on the extremes was difficult. It did routinely yield a doubling of fuel economy, though.

Interestingly, modern hybrids have similar logic in them.
