(19,375 posts)thank you for that. You are right, put on our own oxygen masks first, make sure we can take care of ourselves so we can help take care of others. We are not victims.
About greed though. My Kumu's Dad (hula teacher's Dad) used to take her to the beach often, a few blocks away from their home. We still gather at that hale (house.) Kumu passed in 2023 but I think of her with love every day. The family is still in that house. I'm seeing them next week
Anyway back to the beach...they would fish, gather opihi (small shelled yummies) and enjoy each other's company. She felt really happy to be with him. One day when they were finished gathering some opihi she popped one in her mouth.
He let her know never to do that; to be greedy in Hawaiian culture is about the worst thing. Wait till they got home and shared.
