In reply to the discussion: NYT says a preliminary report from the FAA says the control tower was understaffed [View all]MichMan
(13,984 posts)22. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has hired 1,811 air traffic controllers during fiscal year 2024,
exceeding its goal by 11. This also marks the largest number hires in nearly a decade."
Our dedicated air traffic controllers keep the flying public safe every day, FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker said. Im thrilled to announce that we hit this major hiring milestone and have so many talented professionals entering our training program. Its a testament to the hard work of everyone involved and part of our ongoing work to rebuild the controller workforce.
The FAA met its hiring goal by recruiting controllers with prior air traffic experience from the military and private industry.
With this years addition, the agency has more than 14,000 air traffic controllers. Approximately 3,400 controllers are in various stages of training.

I think the takeaway that needs to be mentioned is that if Harris would have won, the crash wouldn't have occurred

I was about to post -- these deaths are probably one more legacy of RR's poisonous reign.

As President of SAG, RR sold out his fellow actors. He was producing a show, and union regs. said that was a no-no.
