(71,339 posts)The area where we live, although reasonably densely populated, (700k in the county) is notoriously bad for GPS.
When our company had visitors come to our big Chicago area manufacturing site, we would send an email with a map, directions and in bold underlined text "Do not rely on GPS".
Some ignored that and got so far off base, I would leave to go to a truck stop, the talk them in over the phone, until they got to where I was. Then they'd follow me back. Some of these folks ended up 8 miles to far south & east!
We contacted Garmin, Google, MapQuest & others but they did nothing.
Even nearer our house, there is an exit that only matters after a turn to the east. The other direction goes nowhere except a dead end.
The county put up a 4' by 3' sign saying "Ignore your GPS! This way leads to nothing."
On that first piece, I once had an ISO auditor get dropped off in the middle of nowhere by an Uber driver who got frustrated that he kept going in circles. On the phone, I told him to listen to my instructions nit the GPS, but he wouldn't.
I guessed reasonably well, and tracked her down about a mile from an industrial park with her briefcase & luggage on the ground next to her!
