The NPS, due to the hiring freeze, is now unable to secure what is called "Seasonal Staffing." These are people who work on a seasonal basis for the NPS year after year. They make a career out of it, working during the tourist season. Each year they apply over again for positions in the National Parks. These are the people who keep the parks clean and prevent vandalism, run summer programs, and help keep tourists safe. Without these seasonal workers, the National Parks will be unable to accommodate the millions of Americans who vacation in the National Parks during the Spring, Summer, and Fall. Americans can now expect limit access and even partial closures this coming season due to a lack of staffing.
This is not only going to ruin the plans of those who visit the National Parks every year. It is also going to bring economic disaster to the communities that surround the National Park that depend on tourists renting hotel rooms, renting camping and adventure equipment like RVs, kayaks, and canoes, eating in restaurants, and shopping.
