Their readiness state is horrible. It’s why they underfund NATO to such a high degree. A German colleague of mine used to say that Germany had already lost the arms race so why bother with a 1st class military? Nuclear weapons is not only about possession, but about maintenance and readiness plus a strong defense. Germany does not have this.
