(6,743 posts)There are Reps and Senators. Each their own person. Nobody in leadership is telling Democratic politicians, "This is what you must do... or else!". That's not how Democrats work. You know, big tent, herding cats... all that jazz. We're not all going to agree on tactics. For instance, i disagree with yours.
Let's get to your suggestion. How do you suppose standing "in unison" would've worked in that venue? Ever practice dance in a group or synchronized swimming? Well neither have our Reps. So yeah I think that would've been thoroughly ineffective. By the time the cameras veered anywhere near a Democrat they would've already been walking out the door... I'd rather they interrupt his speech a dozen times than just the once. And if you think dragging Democrats out one at a time by the Sgt at Arms is a good idea...wel i don't know what to say then.
I would like to have seen Democrats hold their own SOTU at a different venue entirely. But i can see how logistically that would have been improbable... in part because i'm sure some Dem politicians felt the need to protest at the actual SOTU. In different ways of course.
