I've been following debate on how much at risk is Social Security. Some think we are safe and naysayers are fearmongering. Others believe it is hopeless.
The main point right now is that we are even having this debate. I've heard about Republicans wanting to cut or privatize SS for decades. But I never really worried. I assumed that elected officials would have to vote on it and then face their voters in a few years.
Now we are looking for our payment each month uncertain whether it will be there. The very uncertainty is abuse. We don't need this to last until next month; we need it to last for 25 years.
This is only a crisis because Elon Musk, not Congress, are making decisions. Besides the worry that there won't be another election to make anyone accountable.
