trump probably insisted on that clause or else he'd primary them... or kill their families... or catch them in a "compromising situation." republicans have no idea how to govern, they have no idea what the constitution says, and they don't care as long as they end up on trump's most favored list.

They've been giving away their power for decades, in small and large ways. One of the largest was the one where only Congress has the right to say we go to war. The got around that by not having the U.S. go to "war" anymore... we just do "state actions"... hmm... sounds amazingly like Putin's name for the Ukrainian War.
