In reply to the discussion: The American Tourist Industry Is About To Fall Off A Cliff -- Digby [View all]SeattleVet
(5,847 posts)29. We're planning on spending our travel time (and dollars!) in Canada this year.
Spent 4 days in Central Vancouver Island a few weeks ago. Planning at least 2 trips to Victoria, and maybe one to either Whistler or Sun Peaks.
(On our last trip when Canada Customs/Immigration asked what the purpose of our visit was I told him, "To tour around Nanaimo and spend money in Canada." He waved us right through. We got through the border headed north in under 5 minutes. Coming back - it was exactly 2.5 HOURS in the backup to the border from 1km away, but only about 2 minutes when we finally got to the checkpoint.)

I think so, too. The U.S. Travel Association has not yet updated their rosy predictions from Jan. 9, 2025.

I was raised in upstate NY, near Lake George. That lake is a major tourist destination for Canadians.

And we grew up in Saranac Lake. The Adirondacks are already feeling the loss of tourists/outdoor enthusiasts.

Nature of the free markets. No whining if you voted for the orange convict. Start pulling on those bootstraps.

No wonder potential visitors feel pushed (or alienated) away. I'd feel like that, too.
