this since the New Deal. Though it really wasn't highly noticeable until the 70's -- so I'd put it at more like 50 years. A lot of us old timers probably became concerned about exactly that -- the Rs having a long game strategy for turning back the clock so to speak that they were working while Dems -- remaining ever faithful to bipartisanship -- negotiated with them over time incrementally in what seemed like "one step forward two steps back" fashion over most of those 50 years.

Really, it's no wonder many found green or other third party candidates attractive. I've spoken with many Greens who say they gave up on the Democratic Party for exactly this reason or they were just as susceptible to the influence of money as Rs.

I've nevertheless remained a loyal albeit sometimes wistful Dem candidate voter -- because it seemed like the only realistic choice. My patience is wearing thin these days.
