8. The "Power of the People?"

I would suggest that works only when the political leadership supports the peoples' position, e.g. The Civil Rights Act of 1964. The President was a Democrat and both chambers of the Congress had massive Democratic majorities. Which is not to say I disagree with the value of the ongoing protests against the Trump agenda but his average approval rating is still near 50%. The crazy people who elected him, still support him.

And when you add the intimidation factor by Trump in cowering the GOP lawmakers' actions, the power of the people is toothless.

I think Trump actually believes he can personally run the government and will eliminate federal workers and agencies to the point the government can't effectively function; after which time he'll make daily decisions on what the government does and just tell the Cabinet members to "make it so."

As a point of fact, he's already doing that...
