tRump has ended the $800 personal exemption for the border and for packages.

But if you buy some $300 shoes in Canada for $200, wear them for a few days, who are they to say you didn't buy them in the states? "Yes officer, of course I bought new shoes in preparation for my vacation!"

I suppose the potential exists they might assess a tariff tax on the shoes and dare you to provide a US receipt to get the money back. But how likely is that really?

The Border goons would have to search your phone to determine if it is new (file transfer dates), but it is illegal for them to search the phones of American residents.
