In reply to the discussion: The 7 Largest Dow Jones drops in US history....ALL TRUMP [View all]Bernardo de La Paz

Point changes are useless for these kinds of purposes. A 1000 point change on a 40,000 point base is less meaningful than a 500 point change on a 15,000 point base.
Use percentages. Really.
If I say the price of a painting has risen by $1,000 dollars it makes a difference if the original price was 2,000. If the original price was $800,000 then 1,000 is hardly noticeable, and not meaningful, just noise.
Cut to the chase, use percentages.

Good. Percents are key. You are halfway there and should look at the S&P 500 (re downthread post of mine). . . . nt

Half truths are just fine. Nobody cares about the minutia. This is a good TP.

Yep. It just invites someone to say that the three largest Dow gains of all time were under Trump

And simple minded fools won't question that the three greatest Dow gains were under Trump.

You are talking to DU here, not maga. Please don't assume most DU members are simple minded fools. . . . nt

Yay for percentages. Day losses are dramatic and attention getting, but what really costs are the long declines. . nt

The Dow is a useless broken price-weighted index easy to calculate with 1900 era adding machines.

Thanks. 1987 was dramatic, for sure, but I was not paying attention in 2020 or 2008. Nice to review again. . . nt
