(226 posts)OP asked reps to speak out or explain their silence on an issue that affects US citizen due process rights. This is not a demanding perfection issue. It’s a demanding representation issue. You are demanding a standard of perfection according to your beliefs from people who owe you no allegiance. Also, how is it wrong that we ask more democrats from non marginalized groups to speak out? I applaud those speaking out, but there needs to be more. Let’s try to get more reps speaking out. You are so interested in courting the middle to win elections. How can that be done without cross demographic representation from our party?
I don’t think asking an elected official to speak out on an issue you feel important is blaming them. Likewise, neither is asking them to explain why they are silent. Are we in grade school? Politicians are big people and if they can’t argue for their position, maybe they’re in the wrong line of work. Politics is a feedback loop. They say and do stuff then we say and do stuff then they say and do stuff to respond to what we say?Are you saying that taking Democratic Party reps to task if silent about Trump’s recent statement will get republicans elected, then make the argument. Saying things doesn’t make it so. You do realize you are trying to protect democratic representatives’ silence at the expense of democratic individuals’ voices? Of course that might be your intent.
