His point about mothers was, I think, especially astute.

As to who he is -- he's a guy raised by a single immigrant mother (as he just said) who is now a multi millionaire and a professor of business marketing at NYU.

He never said it was the fault if Democrats, but as a marketer, is pointing out gaps. Telling the hard truths should never be seen as anti-Democratic, I think. If they apply, they apply; if they don't resonate, one can choose move on to the next useful insight.
