Consider this: Senator Joseph McCarthy and his lackey, Roy Cohn, likely would not have had the traction, the publicity, the fear, the threat if Adlai Stevenson had been elected in 1952. Stevenson would have addressed their reckless accusations of Communism and the country wouldn't have been held hostage for more than half a decade. Being brilliant was Stevenson's weapon of choice.
